With 125 offices nationwide and more than 2,500 employees, Professional Services Industries, Inc. (PSI) is one of the nation’s largest firms specializing in engineering, scientific, technical and management solutions for clients engaged in site selection, design, construction and property management.
Since its beginnings in 1881, PSI has devoted itself to hiring people with the drive to succeed and providing them with the tools, training and environment they need to excel. So it’s no wonder that PSI has been an enthusiastic ACE sponsor since 2006.
Today, in addition to financial support, the company provides 20 to 25 employees as mentors to the 10 ACE affiliates under its wing.
PSI’s leaders know that the future of the architecture, engineering and construction industries depends on attracting talented students to rewarding careers. As noted by Murray Savage, PSI’s CEO and ACE national board member and treasurer, “The ACE Mentor Program is the best avenue we know of to get students, educators and our industry working together to provide young people with exciting and challenging career paths. At the same time, it helps our industry find emerging talent to recruit and hire from within a dwindling labor pool.”
Accordingly, PSI encourages its employees to volunteer as ACE mentors. It also regularly welcomes ACE students to PSI testing laboratories for tours and presentations that give them hands-on familiarity with various construction materials and the exacting soil tests required in the construction process.
“The value of the ACE Mentor Program to young people and our industry is outstanding,” says Savage. “At the same time, I’m continually impressed by the positive impact I see ACE having on mentors and participating mentor firms.”
His advice to others in the industry? “If you are not involved in ACE, get involved today. You will benefit, your firm will benefit, young people will benefit, and our industry will benefit.”
