The ACE team at Dorsey High School in Los Angeles, attended the 5th Annual ACE Awards Banquet. On the far left is student Angel Ruacho, who was presented with an ACE National Scholarship award plus an ACE Los Angeles Scholarship award. Third from the right, in the back row, is Noah Boro of Turner Construction Company, leader of the ACE mentoring team at Dorsey High School.

Over the years, Turner Construction Company has played a vital role in ACE’s success. For example, they’ve generated substantial growth by funding the establishment of chapters in major cities across the United States, including Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, Indianapolis, Miami, Charlotte, Columbus, Boston, Detroit and Houston. They also help fund the ACE scholarship program, which provides financial assistance for ACE graduates who plan to pursue careers in design and construction.

But Turner’s involvement doesn’t stop with financing. Their employees give of themselves as well. In addition to serving on the ACE national board, they actively participate in local affiliates, where they mentor students, create summer internships and even provide the first jobs that get many young people’s careers off to a solid start.

Here are some specific examples of how Turner employees contribute to ACE:

Jay Fraser – Jay discovered ACE while working on UBS’s US Corporate Headquarters. He, along with many of his fellow workers, became mentors in the Stamford, Connecticut program. When he moved to Miami a few years later, he began the ACE program there. This fall that program will expand to Broward County and several more locations in Miami-Dade.

John Pierce – John first started mentoring for ACE when he was with Turner Interiors. Now, as a vice president in its international division, he is introducing ACE to students in Trinidad and Tobago, ACE’s first international site. John also serves on ACE’s National Affiliate Council.

Russ Alford – When asked to participate in the ACE Mentor Program in Cincinnati, Russ unhesitatingly volunteered both his time and expertise to help guide and build the program.

Tiffiny Somers – Tiffiny and her colleagues were instrumental in starting the ACE Mentor Program of Indianapolis, Indiana. Using the new Indianapolis airport as a "living laboratory," ACE students explored the project during their first year in the program. In fact, an ACE student group was the last to tour the airport’s tower before the FAA moved in to begin formal operations.

Tina Jones – Tina began the ACE program in Detroit. Now in its third year, the program continues to offer exciting programs and innovative learning experiences that introduce students from the city’s public high schools to the building industry’s many potential career opportunities.

And the list goes on.

In appreciation of its many contributions to ACE, we salute the Turner Construction Company and applaud the dedication of its more than 1,000 employees throughout the country.
