About Us

The ACE Mentor Program of Maryland's Eastern Shore helps students learn about career opportunities in architecture, construction management and engineering, while also providing mentoring and scholarships for those interested in pursuing these careers. This past year, we awarded $17,000 in scholarships to six students.

Program participants come from local public and private high schools. When recruiting, we make a special effort to reach those who are traditionally under-represented in our industry, such as women and minorities, as well as those who may be unaware of careers in the design and construction professions.

Throughout the 15-session program, we introduce these students to the building industry’s career potential by having them work as part of a collaborative team under the mentorship of an industry professional to plan and design a “mock” project on a real site. The program concludes with presentations that simulate the ones professionals deliver to their clients.

Our Team Projects

In 2006-2007, our teams worked on a variety of imaginative and exciting projects. These included a dealership showroom for high-end cars, a marina with shopping and events areas, a new private school campus with athletic and other facilities, a music mall with concert hall, recording studio and retail music store, and an indoor go-cart track with amusement area and restaurant.

Guided by mentors from local building industry professional firms, the teams created site plans, architectural and engineering designs, sketches and working drawings, conceptual models, and other materials required to clearly visualize and present their ideas.
