Austin
About Us
ACE Mentoring Program of Austin enables high school juniors and seniors to experience first-hand the working world of architects, engineers and construction managers, while also exploring the building industry’s many exciting career opportunities.
Working directly with industry professionals, students develop their creativity and skills by designing detailed building projects, often using the same advanced computerized tools their mentors employ. Students also visit major construction projects for an inside look at building systems and components.
Through the ACE experience, many students develop lasting contacts with building industry professionals who can assist them in selecting a college, obtaining rewarding internships and, eventually, finding a job. The program also awards an annual scholarship.
Our Projects
Students have completed such design projects as a hotel, an internet café, a recreation complex, a fire station and a high school renovation. One ACE team developed a New Urbanism-style apartment building for the Mueller Airport redevelopment project.
Through these projects, teams successfully addressed a multitude of design challenges, ranging from acoustical issues for high school classrooms to the energy efficiency and affordability of a residential structure.
At an end-of-year event attended by mentors, parents and teachers, students presented their projects using AutoCAD drawings, scale models and PowerPoint slides. We also awarded a $500 scholarship to one of our outstanding seniors.
