About Us

ACE Mentoring of Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) introduces area high school juniors and seniors to the many rewarding career opportunities offered by the architectural, construction and engineering professions. Through programs that integrate hands-on activities, office tours, videos and field trips, mentors from area building industry firms expose students to a wide variety of skills and specialties.

This deepens students’ understanding of the career paths open to them, while giving them experience in applying the tools and techniques used by experts in the field.

ACE DFW also funds a college scholarship program for students who choose a post-high-school course of study leading to a career in the building industry. To date, this program has awarded scholarships worth a total of $72,000.

Since its founding, ACE DFW has more than doubled in size, with enrollment growing from 21 students from one high school in 2004 to 44 students from six schools in 2007.

Our Projects

During the 2006-2007 school year, each of four teams designed a building for a multi-use development planned for land adjacent to the new Dallas Cowboys stadium, which is currently under construction.

Projects included an eight-story office building, a 10-screen movie theatre, a sports merchandise shop, and a bar and grill. Each structure had to conform to set land dimensions and roadway designs. It also had to respond to such issues as accessibility for the physically handicapped.

Through mentoring meetings in architectural, construction and engineering offices, the teams conceived unique ideas for each building’s structure and landscaping. Students also toured the offices and talked with professionals about their work and careers.

At an end-of-year banquet, the teams used PowerPoint presentations to demonstrate their solutions. In addition, six students won $4,000 scholarships. One of these students also earned a scholarship in ACE’s national competition.
