New Jersey
About Us
A state-level affiliate with operations in the state’s major cities, ACE New Jersey’s goal is to encourage high school young people to pursue careers in architecture, engineering and construction.
During the program year, students work in teams with professionals from local industry firms, who serve as mentors for a program of activities ranging from construction site tours to learning sessions with industry experts. In addition, each team works on a project that simulates a “real-life” situation.
During the 2006-2007 program year, our eight teams met twice a month for 15 sessions. Working collaboratively, these teams pursued projects that included a performing arts center, a low-income community, a paintball emporium with robotic parking, a pedestrian bridge, a new transit tunnel, a theme park, affordable housing units, and recreation and teen centers.
By engaging in the same processes industry professionals use when transforming their ideas from initial concepts into finished buildings, students get a “hands-on” view of the potential rewards and satisfactions available through a career in the building industry. At the end of the program, students present their projects at an event attended by peers, mentors, parents and others.
In addition, we award scholarships to those pursuing a post-high-school academic course leading to a career in the building industry. In 2006-2007, we awarded seven scholarships worth a total of $29,000.
