We just completed another successful year of the ACE Mentor Program in Annapolis High School.

Please read all about it!

I’d like to thank all of the mentors that were involved this year. I know it was very rewarding to see the student presentations this week and to be able to award another scholarship to a well-deserving student. I hope that you enjoyed it as much as I did. And I like to give a special thanks to Ms. Sunny Deitrick, our teacher sponsor. The program would not be as successful as it is without all of her hard work!

About Us

Founded in the spring of 2007, ACE Annapolis began as a way to show Annapolis High School students the breadth of career opportunities available to them in the fields of architecture, engineering and construction.

Meeting 12 weeks, from January to May, with mentors drawn from leading area firms, the students work on projects that demonstrate key principles and techniques used in the building industry.

Field trips to major construction projects, such as Anne Arundel Medical Center and the International Masonry Institute (IMI), give students a behind-the-scenes look at how those principles and techniques are employed in real-world settings.

Seven to twelve students participate in the ACE Annapolis program from year to year, with mentoring provided by professionals. Plans are now underway to provide the program to both Annapolis High School and South River High School students in 2012.

Our Projects

Students in the 2011 ACE Annapolis program focused on re-designing downtown Annapolis to make it a more enjoyable place to both live and visit. Through the use of Google SketchUp, the students designed a parking structure, a pedestrian bridge over Ego Alley, and a Museum/Restaurant on the waterfront.

The 2010 project focused on designing an addition to their very own gymnasium at Annapolis High school. Throughout the semester, students developed 3-D models to incorporate into their final presentations.
