ACE Hawaii Team Takes Home Top Honors

Judges in the first annual CIRT-ACE Design Competition selected an innovative turtle-shaped children's playground concept designed by five high school students from Honolulu, HI for top honors during the First Annual CIRT/ACE National Design Competition in Washington, DC.

The design competition was launched as a collaborative effort between CIRT and the ACE Mentor Program of America. Three ACE affiliate finalists from New York City, Kansas City and the winner from Honolulu, Hawaii were originally selected to compete for the first place prize of $3,000 earlier in the year.

After weeks of preparation, each team made formal presentations that covered cost estimates, schedules and conceptual designs to an industry panel of CEOs from major architectural, engineering and construction firms.

First place went to Jacqueline Wijaya of Honolulu, for her project: “A Honu World” that depicted a children's playground. Second place went to Philip Jermolowitz of New York City and third place was awarded to Chris Avery of Kansas City, Missouri.
