ACE Affiliates Serve Their Communities

Several affiliates have developed activities involving students designing and constructing a project to serve their community.
  • Austin, TX students, in collaboration with DPR Construction, built bookcases for a local elementary school library this spring.
  • For several years Houston has organized “Build It Forward” which is part fundraiser, part community service project. Last December students and mentors built picnic tables which were donated to local non-profits.
Central Iowa's tiny house project.                              Austin's bookshelf project.
  • Central Iowa designed and erected a tiny house for an organization assisting the homeless.   It plans to repeat this next year.
  • Chicago’s five-week-long summer workshop designs and builds a project for a community organization.  This summer students will construct a kiosk for a sustainable urban farm connected to the Illinois Institute of Technology.
  • Each year Rochester, NY students design and build playhouses which are auctioned at a charity benefit.  This spring one house was donated to a critically ill child.

ACE Now on Instagram

A late adapter of the popular photo-sharing app Instagram, ACE National finally created its own page.  Follow us @acementor to learn about ACE across the nation. In addition to the alumni mentor campaign (see next story), we will repost the content affiliates and teams create.

Celebrating ACE Alumni Mentors
The many alumni who return to mentor the next generation of students attest to ACE’s success and effectiveness.  To highlight ACE’s impact on them and their contribution to the program, ACE has launched a long-term social media campaign showcasing their successes.

Any alumni mentors wishing to be featured in this campaign should contact Paulette Dallas, ACE's Regional Director (West).
