National TV Show Shines Spotlight on ACE

For the third consecutive year, the national PBS broadcast of American Graduate Day prominently featured ACE.  The October 14 program showcased ACE in two, 7-minute segments.   Mentoring and workforce development were the themes of the four-hour show.

In one segment,  alumna Sarai Martinez and her San Antonio affiliate mentors Mary Stewart and Mike Kaiman discussed ACE’s impact and their personal experiences in the program.  Their compelling story can serve as a useful tool for affiliates to recruit mentors and potential sponsors.      
ACE Vice Chairman and Turner CEO Peter Davoren appeared in a second segment of the show focusing on the value companies gain from mentoring the next generation of workers.


New Mentor Video
ACE recently produced a 14-minute video introducing ACE to prospective mentors.  Among other topics, this new recruitment tool covers the ACE mentor experience and the benefits of mentoring.
Transition at the Top

At its October 23 meeting, the ACE Board of Directors elected Peter Davoren, president and CEO of Turner Construction, as Chairman, and Charles Bacon, chairman and CEO of Limbach Facility Services, as Vice Chairman, starting January 2018.  Ridge Miller with Crowe Horwath will continue as Treasurer.

The Board paid tribute to outgoing Chairman Thomas Gilbane and presented him with a memento book about his six years as ACE Co-Chairman and Chairman.  Mr. Gilbane will remain on the Executive Committee and continue to lead ACE’s fundraising efforts.
The Board approved the appointment of Diana Eidenshink as President of ACE.  For the past year she had served as interim executive director.

Cloud-based Collaboration for ACE Teams, Special Webinar
On November 28 and 29, Autodesk will present an hour-long webinar for ACE mentors and affiliate leaders demonstrating ways student teams can use Connected BIM  to collaborate virtually as they develop their final projects.  The workshop will introduce the basics of Revit for architectural design, BIM 360 Glue for real-time cloud collaboration, and Revit Live for virtual reality experiences..  Details about the webinar’s content and registration can be viewed here.
Autodesk is granting ACE students and mentors free access to Revit, BIM 360, and other products so long as they are used for limited educational purposes.  For more information, read here.

ACE On-line Store Open for Business
ACE-branded merchandise, including shirts, labels, mugs, pencils, pads and stress construction hats, are now for sale at ACE’s virtual store.   Many items can be ordered in single quantities.   They make great thank-you gifts and stocking-stuffers. Mentors and Affiliate Leaders Earn Kudos
Engineering News-Record named Antonya Williams, board member with the Greater Phoenix affiliate, as one of the magazine’s first national "Top 20 under 40" young professionals. 

Carlos Neves, mentor and vice chairman of the Rhode Island affiliate, was selected by Providence Business News as one of its "40 under Forty" winners.
Building Design + Construction chose three ACE mentors for its 2017 “40 under 40” list of young professionals:
  • Matt Breidenthal, mentor and board member with the Atlanta affiliate.  He previously mentored with the Chicago affiliate.
  • Amanda Beck Larkin, mentor with the Chicago affiliate.
  • Jennifer Blair Suerth, mentor and Auxiliary Board member, Chicago affiliate.
The Rochester AIA chapter named Dustin Welch, mentor and vice chairman of the Rochester, NY affiliate, as the Emerging Young Professional of 2017.
