Externship

Our Externship Program connects high school students with leading AEC firms across Hawaii for a paid, short-term summer experience. It’s a hands-on introduction to the real world of design, engineering, and construction.

For Firms

Why Host an Extern?

  • ACE Honolulu covers the student’s compensation, so there is no cost to the host firm.

How It Works:

  1. Reach out to hawaii@acementor.org to express your interest in hosting.
  2. Match with a Student based on interests and location
  3. Host for 80 Hours of student work time.
  4. Receive Support from ACE to ensure a successful experience.

Eligibility

  • Open to current ACE students (Grades 11–12 preferred)
  • Must complete a short application and interview

What to Expect:

  • 80-hour externship (paid at $20/hour)
  • Mentorship and daily shadowing
  • Participation in real project discussions and field walks
  • Professional growth workshops and post-externship reflection
