As Chief Talent and Strategy Officer at Baker Construction Enterprises, Kerri Smith brings together two decades of field and operational experience with an unwavering passion for people. In her unique role, where talent development and company strategy intersect, Kerri leads with a vision grounded in the company’s Just Cause: “Building better structures and building better lives.” Her mission is not only to transform communities but, more importantly, to transform the lives and futures of Baker’s co-workers and their families.

Kerri approaches strategy with a growth mindset, continually testing and evolving Baker’s direction with people at the center. Her leadership philosophy is deeply rooted in her upbringing on a farm in Russellville, Ohio, where she absorbed the values of resilience, authenticity, humility, and gratitude, principles that have shaped every step of her journey.

A proud graduate of Walsh University, Kerri earned her bachelor’s degree in biology while competing as a student-athlete on the women’s basketball team. There, she deepened her commitment to discipline, teamwork, and purpose, qualities that would later draw her to Baker Construction, a company whose values of People, Honor, and Grit felt like home.

Since joining Baker shortly after college, Kerri has championed the belief that everyone deserves the chance to live a life they never imagined possible. She is known for creating opportunities for hardworking individuals to grow, thrive, and leave lasting legacies in both their work and their communities.

When she isn’t guiding talent strategy or driving organizational growth, Kerri can be found courtside in basketball gyms across the country, embracing the joy and chaos of travel schedules, the sound of squeaking shoes, and the pride of motherhood. Sitting next to her husband, she watches her oldest son transform lives through his presence, while her youngest pursues his dream on the court.
